Acupuncture for IVF and IUI in Silver Spring, MD

Research shows acupuncture before and after embryo transfer improves implantation rates and reduces the cortisol spikes that can compromise a cycle. We've supported people through natural conception, IUI, IVF, and donor cycles. Whether this is your first visit to a fertility specialist or your fourth, we meet you where you are.

What We Treat

Every stage of the fertility journey

Chinese medicine sees patterns where Western workups see normal results. We treat the whole picture — body, cycle, and everything you're carrying emotionally.

IVF & IUI Support

Research shows acupuncture before and after embryo transfer improves implantation rates and reduces the cortisol spikes that can compromise a cycle. We support the whole arc — preparing the body before retrieval, supporting implantation, and holding the emotional weight of each phase.

Hormonal Imbalance

PCOS, irregular cycles, elevated FSH, luteal phase deficiency. Chinese medicine maps these to kidney, spleen, and liver patterns — often seeing the root where Western labs see only the result. We treat the underlying imbalance, not just the numbers on a report.

Unexplained Infertility

This is where Chinese medicine often does its most important work. When everything looks normal but conception isn't happening, we find the pattern the labs don't show — and treat it directly.

Female Fertility

Egg quality, uterine lining, cycle regulation, ovulatory support. In Chinese medicine, egg quality is rooted in kidney jing — the deep essence governing reproductive vitality — while uterine lining depends on the abundance of blood and yin. We treat the whole pattern.

Male Factor Fertility

Sperm count, motility, and morphology all respond to targeted acupuncture and herbal protocols. Chinese medicine approaches this through kidney jing and yang — the foundational essence that governs reproductive vitality. Male factor is half the picture and we take it seriously.

Pregnancy Support

Nausea, back pain, anxiety, breech position, birth preparation — acupuncture is safe and effective throughout pregnancy, and most people find it deeply grounding. Women who come in consistently often have what we call acu babies: very calm, easygoing newborns who smile easily, sleep well, and eat well.

Recurrent Loss

We've worked with many women who've experienced multiple miscarriages, often after being told everything looks normal. Chinese medicine identifies patterns Western workups frequently miss: kidney deficiency depleting the uterus's holding capacity, blood deficiency that can't sustain a growing life, cold and stagnation blocking implantation and nourishment. We rebuild those foundations — refilling the reservoirs and restoring what the body needs to carry to full term. We hold space for the grief, and follow your timeline.

Postpartum Recovery

Getting here was hard. Birth draws deeply on blood and qi, and recovery means rebuilding both. We support physical healing, mood, milk supply, and a nervous system that's been through something enormous. Healing matters as much as getting here did.

Common Questions

What patients ask us

How does acupuncture help with fertility?

Acupuncture improves blood flow to reproductive organs, regulates hormone levels, reduces cortisol, and supports uterine lining thickness. Studies show acupuncture on the day of IVF transfer can improve implantation rates.

When should I start acupuncture for fertility?

Ideally 3 months before trying or before a transfer — one full egg maturation cycle. But starting at any point is beneficial. Many patients begin mid-cycle and still see meaningful results.

Is acupuncture safe during IVF?

Yes. We're experienced working alongside fertility clinics and time our sessions to complement your protocol. We're happy to coordinate with your reproductive endocrinologist when helpful.

How many sessions will I need?

It is recommended to come weekly. A typical protocol is 12 sessions, though many continue through pregnancy.

Do you accept insurance?

We're out-of-network. If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance may reimburse a portion of your visit cost. We provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) you can submit directly to your insurance. HSA and FSA are also accepted. We can also bill insurance directly for a small fee.

What if I've had multiple failed cycles?

We see patients at every stage, including those navigating grief and loss. There is no wrong time to come. We meet you where you are.

Your place here is waiting.
